We were delighted to host the launch of the new Writer's Tears XO Cask release. There was a full house in Kealy's to hear about the future of Walsh Whiskey after news had just broke of their split from royal Oak.

This XO cask release is just one example of how the brands continue to innovate in the category.
Writers’ Tears Copper Pot
Writers’ Tears is a unique vatting of Aged Single Pot Still and Single Malt whiskey. Distilled entirely from Pot Still and Malt, without Grain, this is a truly special Irish whiskey. Writers’ Tears is triple distilled, non-peated and matured and aged in American Oak bourbon casks.
Nose Flashes of apple with hints of vanilla and honey over a distinctively pot still base.
Taste Gently spiced with a burst of ginger and butterscotch with background notes of toasted oak. Finish Long Elegant finish with subtle notes of milk chocolate and almonds.
Writers Tears Copper Pot Deau XO Cognac Finish CWS Exclusive Cask
Writers’ Tears Copper Pot – Deau XO Cognac Cask Finish, is a super-premium, limited edition Irish whiskey. It is the fourth expression released under the Writers’ Tears range. On this occasion our Founder Bernard Walsh has finished his unique blend of aged Single Malt and aged Single Pot Still whiskey for nine months in just 12 French Oak Casks that have been seasoned for 10 to 15 years with Deau XO Cognac. It is distilled to 46% ABV, triple-distilled and non-peated.
Nose Succulent notes of poached pear, summer berries, hints of freshly pressed grapes and citrus zest.
Taste Creamy smoothness with rich chocolate undertones.
Finish Floral and fruit aromas make way for an undeniably bold finish.
The Irishman Founder’s Reserve
The Founder’s Reserve is a unique take on the old Irish Pot Still Whiskey and is the original and signature blend created by founder Bernard Walsh. It is a blend of two styles, Single Malt and Single Pot Still. The proportions used are 70% Single Malt and 30% Single Pot Still. This is unusual in itself, as it is the only Irish blended whiskey to contain 100% whiskey distillates from the copper pot still and 0% Grain or Column still whiskey. This results in a much more flavoursome whiskey. The Founder’s Reserve is triple distilled and matured in Bourbon Casks. Quite simply an amazing Whiskey!
Nose A Zesty Spice, with hints of black pepper, cinnamon and peaches. A slight hint of vanilla too, with a suggestive savour of Green Apple.
Taste Pot Still Spice, malt, dark chocolate, bourbon oak, and crème caramel.
Finish Everlasting finish with oak and butterscotch. Lingers for what seems like an eternity!
The Irishman Founder’s Reserve – Caribbean Cask Finish
Product Information: The Irishman Founder’s Reserve – Caribbean Cask Finish is the second expression in The Irishman Founder’s Reserve Cask Series. It is a limited edition finished in rum casks from the tiny tropical Caribbean island of Saint Lucia. A super-premium whiskey, it is a rare vatting of Single Pot Still and Single Malt whiskeys finished for 6 months in Chairman’s Reserve Rum casks. The release is limited to just 12 casks with 380 bottles per cask. Each bottle is individually numbered and signed by Bernard Walsh.
Nose Exotic Rum, apricots and summer fruits.
Taste Avalanche of tropical fruits and vibrant spices.
Finish Fig, banana and oak spices intermingle in a spectacular Caribbean twist.
